A Stud in the Closet
I knew the two people in this photo many years ago, when they were beautiful and in love. And even then, people had so much to say. As we approach 2012, I find the conversations of the onlookers (who are close minded) to be supreme waste of time. The disgust is merely a projection of their own fear of being true to themselves - and it replicates homophobia (to the second degree)
To me, all of it is based on a profound aversion to dealing with reality.
Recently on bklyn boihood posted a narrative written by a brave (but anonymous) young masculine of center person. She spoke poetically of her attraction and admiration of other masculine of center women, and I wanted to share it with all of you:
“I love the way studs that are more handsome than pretty stand with their shoulders broad and proud. The way jeans fit over boxers. Hands that feel a little rough and bras that keep secrets that if you’re lucky, you’ll get to find out. The way they breathe when shit gets heavy and grab with excitement. Turns me on to forget about all the politics in the world and just let myself be held tight and feel safe. I love the way they sit and flirt with confidence. I’m so shy around them. Hats low or fades in coats an tees and everything in between. I love the way they handle knowing they’re being looked at sideways or with jealousy. Soldiers of queerness in a way.”

I hope that one day we will be able to say we’ve created a climate for masculine of center folks of color to love as authentically and as openly as they can imagine.

Together -Defiant Love by Nayahri:
“A Masculine-Identified lesbian couple sharing a tender and -almost ironically- feminine moment. This image was so profound for me to take because masculine identified lesbians (A.K.A. “studs”) are a taboo to society as a whole. But for two studs to be in a relationship with one another is still very frowned upon in the lesbian community.”
beautiful moment…and a sexy ass couple!

Love it. This shouldn’t be frowned upon. We’re a community that doesn’t like to be judged so why do it to one another ? <3
